For tlio opening day of tli© Victoria Amateur Turf Club'a Spring races at Caulfield there was fine cool weather and a splendid attendance. Those present included the Governor-General (Sir Ronald Munro-Ferguson) and party and the State' Governor (Sir Arthur Stanley) and party. There /were good fields in all the races except the Caulfield Stakes, and the racing was very interesting. Results were as follow: — lOLO WELTER, of 250 sovs. Seven furlongs. Mr.' F. Page's bf. g. Peck o' Maut made the ■ early running,' but the winner, who was always prominent, took command at tlie distance and won by three lengths.. A head separated second and third.'
