CARTERTON NOTES
In tho Magistrate's Court on Thursday, before Mr. L. G.Reid, S.M., W. A.. Herriek, charged with drunkenness, and using .insulting language, was formally convicted .on the first offence, and convicted and fined 40s.' and. costs 7s. on tho second charge. Syend A. ■ Nelson was charged with selling a quantity of milk to the Health Inspector which, when analysed, was below the standard test. The milk .was particularly.good as regards solids,, but was deficient in the way of fat. A plea of guilty was entered, and as tho Department did not press for a; heavy penalty, His Worship inflicted a fine, or OS. with 17s. 6d. costs. A youth' named Walter H. G. Bedford, 18 years, pleaded guilty to falso representation regarding his age in order.to.be served with liquor at tho Royal Oak Hotel, Carterton, and was fined 205., costs 11s., and expenses Bs. Ten charges were brought by the polico against publicans and barmen in Car.tertou and. Greytown, for supplying youths named Walter Bedford, and Finpll White, who visited the hotels on tho evening of September B..Thecharge against "Emily Poison for supplying Bedford was dismissed, but she was fined 205., and costs 11s., for supplying liquor to White. Similar- charges against W. G. W. Conlcy, bnrmnn, and James Eaton, licensee of the Club Hotel, Greytown, were dismissed. A similar charge against Melville Robertson, barman at the Tarakhi Hotel, was also dismissed. W. Redmond, licensee of tho Club Hotel, Carterton, was similarly charged, and the case of supplying Bedford was dismissed, but for suih nlying White a fino of 205., and costs 11s., was imposed.
