DISTRESS RELIEF FUND
POOR OF GREAT BRITAIN, IRELAND, AND BELGIUM. The general secretary of 'the Poor of Groat Britain and Irelaid, and Belgium Relief Fund (Mr. R. W. Shallcrass) lias returned from a short visit to the country districts. Ho attended a mdeting of the Wairarapa Patriotic Committeo at Masterton, which has agreed to promote tho fund throughout the whole of the .Wairarapa district. This committee, of whicli Mr. Morrison is. president, and Mr. D. Heginton secretary, has akeady done excellent work in connection with the dispatch and equipment of the Expeditionary Force, will now give its undivided attention. to the Relief Fund. Donations of more than 600 sheep wero promised at the meeting. Tho Pahiatua district has formed on organisation to assist tho fund, of which Mr. J. Breeds is the president. A number of contributions have been promised. In Dannevirke Mr. R. E. Bunny is chairman, and Mr. R. .Taklo secretary of a committee representing the Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and the New Zealand Sports Protection League, which has been formed to promote the movenient. At present the district is suffering very severely from bush fires, and an active canvas has been postponed for the present. The following donations have already been received:—

Tlie collection taken up at St. Paul's Anglican pro-Cathedral on Sunday, October 4, in aid of the fund for tho relief of the poor of the United Kingdom and Belgium amounted to a little over £73. •
