THIRD HOCKEY TEST MATCH END OF ENGLISH LADIES' TOUR. (By Ifelograph—Press Association.) ■Auckland, October 11. Tho All-England ladies' hockey team closed its tour here yesterday, when the third Test match against the New Zealand representatives was played before an attendance of almost 1000" spectators, and closely contested throughout, tho result being a draw, each sldo scoring one goal. Tho honours aro thus even,'m so far as the Test matches are concerned, for each side won a match and tho third was drawn. On Saturday's play the English team was unlucky not to win., Tile opening stages of the game saw the visitors on the attack, and Miss Arthur only kept the "All Blacks'" goal intact by several clever saves. After about 15 minutes' play, Miss C. Smith secured about midh'ekl and sent the ball on to lier forwards, and after good passing. Miss Leacroft scored for England. Tho New Zealand team attacked hotly, and the English defence was severely tested, but proved to bo equal to tho occasion. There was no further score before half-time. ' '• '
Early in the second spell the New Zealand forwards were prominent, but the cleverer movements of the visitors Boon gave them ,the advantage, and man;i - anxious minutes passed with the ball in dangerous proximity to the "All Blacks'" goal. Eventually tho siege was raised, and after some good defensive work had bean done by Miss Wetherall, tlio "All Blacks' " riglit wing, Miss M'Donnell secured tho ball, ami following a nice run, she transferred to Miss Emms. The last-named hit hard up the field, and outpacing the English hacks', again got possession of the ball in tho circle, and sent in a hot shot, which Miss Wetherall attempted to. stop , with-her foot, but the ball had sufficient pace to carry on over tho goallino. ' Tho results of the tour aro:~ Matches played, 26; won, 22; lost, 3; drawn, 1; goals for. 183; against, 36. Tho team has thus $co.red an average of over 7 goals a- match," their opponents' average scoro being a fraction over 1. Tho team won the wholo of its matches in Australia, but was beaten in Nevs Zealand by Poverty Bay,. Canterbury, and in the second Test match. After the match both teams assembled in tho pavilion, an<l Miss C. J. Gaekcll, captafn of ithe English team, presented Mr. A. W. Manning with a silver cigarette case and a photograph of the team, as a mark of appreciation for his services as manager. Mr. Man} ning was presented with another cigar-; ctte case by Miss Rabbidge, captain of the New Zealand team. Mrs. J. C. Peacock, who had toured with the New Zealand team as chaperon, was presented by Mr. Manning, on behalf of the New Zealand Ladies' Hockey .Association, with a Doulton jardiniere. The visiting teams' were entertained last night at a reception. at the Training College, and were taken for a harbour excursion to-day. Five members of the English team leave for Sydney on Tuesday, and the remaindor will disperse or sightseeing tours before departing from the Dominion.
