FIRST DAY'S RESULTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Gore, October 8. The first festival of the Gors Competitions Society opened yesterday, when there were large and appreciative audiences. -The Mayor opened the proceedings. Mr. Phillip Dunn, R.A.M. (Invercargill), ,is musical judge, and Mr. W. G. Mehaffey (Invercargill) judge of elocution. Results:— Original short story—Miss E. "Wilson, Gore, 1; G. Hodgkinson, Invercargill, 2 and 3. Eleven entries. Original poem—G. Hodgkinson, 1 and 2; Miss E. Hodgkinson, Dunedin, 3. Twenty-three entries. Composition (open to primary school pupils)— Miss Barker (Myross Bush), 1. Six entries. (Mr. C. Darling, Dunedin, was judge.) Soprano solo-rE. Landela, Mataura, 73 points, 1: B. Stewart, Gore, 77, 2; A. Preece, 72, 3. Four entries. Musical monologue—L. Alsweiler, Invercargill, 1; G. W. Eraxton, Invercargill, 2; W. H. Shelton, Gore, 3. Twelve entries Half-hour entertainment —A. H. Todd's party, Gore, 1; Sutherland, and Rohson, 2.
