The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce advise that tho total number of- bales of hemp graded during September was 5816,. as compared with 11,011. for ,tho correspond-, ing .month of last year, a decrease of 5195- bales.. For the twelve months endin*''.September 30, 1914, the number of bates:'graded' was' 121,124, as compared with 158,397 for the previous twelve-months—a decrease of 37,273 -bales.' ■•'''■■ ' ■ During the month 1365 bales of tow were! dealt,with, -.as compared with 3476 for ;the:i_corresponding month ,of . last yeai"~a decrease of : 2111' bales. ■ For the twelve months ending September 30, the number of bales graded was 38,524, as compared with 55,236 for, the previous twelve months—a decrease of 16,712 bales'.,""- - .- The number,ofvbales of stripper 6lips graded was 72, as compared with 221 for i'tho -corresponding month of last decrease of 149 bales. For the twelve months ending September 30, 1914/ the number of bales passed for export was 3239. . •. \
The new -co-operative.cheese ; factory at Kohinui was opened this week, the initial milk supply being 500 gallons. The factory is a very compact structure, and is equipped with the most modern plant, including a whey-separation room. Tho building is considered to be one of the most up' to date in- the Wellington province.,. Mr. M.. Hansen, formerly manager cf'the Tararua (Ballance) cheese factory; will control the malting of the current, season's output of cheese. The first of this season's shipments of cheese (150 crates) from the Mangataiuoka cheese factory was railed to Wellington: for- Home. shipment last week! -The Mangarama and ; MangaJiao factories also forwarded consignments.
