DRAINAGE BILLS.
BREEDING OF REMOUNTS" ANIMALS' PROTECTION BILL. The Legislative Council sat at 2.30 p.m. , Seven days' leave of absence was granted the Hon. J. Fisher 011 accouut •of urgent public business; and three days' leave of absence was granted the Hon. W. Nikora on account of illness. A message was received from the House of Representatives to the effect that they had disagreed with the amendment made by the Council in the clause in the Licensing Amendment Bill which governs the strength of New Zealandmade wine. The reason givon for the disagreement was that while under'the clause in its present form wine could be manufactured without limit to _ its strength, the way was open for serious abuse. The message is to be considered to-day. Tile National Provident Fund Amendment Bill was received from the House of Representatives, and read a first time. , The' Hon. H. D. BELL gave notice that to-day. he would introduce the Taieri Land Drainage Amendment Bill, and the Fisheries Amendment Bill. The Council rose at 2.38 p.m.
