NATIVES' ASSOCIATION
.'ANNUAL MEETING. Mr. J.i E, Jenkinson (chairman) presided at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Natives' Association, held in the Rech'abite Hall last evening,' , aiidAi opening stated that it had been mentioned ai the , last meeting of the association that if war did take, place they ivouid doubtless find several of their members donning the khaki. Since that meeting war had broken out, and any of. those present had only to Jcce'p a sharp. lookout in -the streets to find that a number of their members had answered the call, and were now amongst the boys in khaki. It was with particular pleasure, too, that ho had to congratulate the association on havjng fiecured the. lato City Band for the Natives' Association, which name the band had now adopted. (Applause.) The secretary (Mr: Charles M'lntyre), in presenting the first annual report, stated that the association had accomplished a good deal. They had a- cash balance of £30 in hand, and were also possessed, of assets to the value of £71. Through their activities sinco the outbreak of the- war tho association had been able to hajid over the sum of £50 to tho Mayor for the Patriotic .Fund; , Mr. M'ln'tyre also mentioned the pleasure it had given him, to seeurn the. pervices of;, the late City Band for the. association.; . He announced that a big patriotic.-' concoct was to ,be given ,by ; the association* in the Town Hall, on November .11, when the art union for tho autographed Union Jack would l>o drawn. A large choir of school children was now being trainer] to sine a number of choruses under tho direction of Mr. M'Laughlin, and leading amateurs..would assist. The secretary a,lso felicitated tho association on having secured the services. of tlio late Citv Band and its able conductor, Lieut. T. Herd. .
The report and balance-sheet were adopted without comment or discussion The following officers were elected for tho ensuing year:—President, Hon. A. L. Herdman; vice-presidents, Sir Jas.
