PHILATELIC SOCIETY OF N.Z.
The twenty-sixth annual report of tho Philatelic Society of Now Zealand states that tho membership is now 110, as against 116 twelve mouths ago. During the year 37 books of a gross value of £21<12 fSs. 7d. were placed on circuit. The sales for this period amounted to £505 13s. 3d. gross, and commission £19 Is. 2d. In order that tho finances of_ the society may bo placed upon a businesslike footing, the commission will in future bo equally divided between the lion, secret'arv and tho exchange superintendent, in lieu of the usual honorariums voted at tbo annual meeting. In spite of the energetic and efficient manner in which i tlio exchange superintendent (Mr. A. 11. ■ Bennett) conducted this branch of the I society, tho above figures arc considerably lower than those of last year. During tho latter half of the year thero has been a marked scarcity of really ; desirable stamps. This applies particularly to tho early issues of New Zealand. The financial position of the societyis very satisfactory. Tho total liabilities ' amount to only £13 Ss. 7d., to meet i which there is £60 Is. 7d. in band rmrt ! £59 ss. 7d. outstanding, a total of £125 :7s. 2d. I Considerable additions have St'Pii made I to the library, both by purchasi.and dn- • nations. Especial reference must be j made to the rare rnpy of Mount Brown's catalogue (first edition) presented to tho society by ono of its vice-presidents, Dr. 1 11. L. Ferguson. Over two hundred forgeries have been added to tho col- ; lection, iluvinc the yeas.
