MR. ALLEN'S COMMENT.
"Pure piffle all those figures—absolute balderdash," was tlie comment of-the Minister of Finance (the Hon. J. Allen) on tho cabled estimate of ten millions sterling as the amount New Zealand mil expend on the war. Asked whether he cared to give any estimate of the probable expenditure on the war, Mr. Allen replied: "How can I, until I havo 6ome idea of the duration of the war? I havo already told the House that I have made arrangements for two millions, and I hope that will carry us en for some time yet."
