ESTIMATED AT £100,000,000
Sydney, Ootober 5. The "Daily Telegraph," in a leader on "Financing the Wax," says that Canada will probably face the expenditure of £30,000,000, Australia £20,000,000 or more, and Now Zealand, «ay, £10,000,000. With India, South Africa, and other possessions, the war may. involve the expenditure of £100,000,000 by the outer Empire. Though the colonies undertook to face the liability, they could hardly find the money unassisted; but probably it will be.found that the British Government come to the assistance of the Dominions with war loans.
AUSTRALIAN NOTE ISSUE. ' ' Melbourne, October 5. A proclamation states that the authorities will issue notes to the value of £14,000,000, including the £12,000,000 previously authorised.
STRONG FRENCH GOLD RESERVE. Paris, October 4. The Minister of Finance (M.'Ribot) states that the financial situation ia favourable'. Tho gold reserve at the Bank of France is £163,000,000, and the silver reserve £12,760,000. , . M. Ribot hopes to reopen tho Bourse conjointly with the reopening ot the London. Stock Exchange.
The gold reserve at the Bank of France on July 30, just prior to the outbreiii of war, was £165,1554,000, and on July 31.1913, it was 434,480,000, Tho sUver rWvo'ou the same dates m and £80.086.000 respectively
