RUAHINE FROM LONDON. Considerably behind time, the New Zealand Shipping Ooinpany's H.M.S. Ruahino arrived in the stream from London at 1.20 p.m. on Saturday, after an eventful passage (particulars of which appear elsewhere in this issue). Favourable weather was experienced,,. and tho island port was made at 6.48 a.m. on August 17. After a five-days' delay tho Ruahino left for llobart, in company -with H.M.S. Cornwall and other cruisers. On Monday, August 24, tho Island of St. Vincent was passed, and signals exchanged. Capo Town was cut out as a port of,call this voyage, the- linor comini: lisM through to Hobart. Crossing tho Southem Ocean a succession of heavy gales and high seas wore encountered. . WHV THE AMINO IS HEBE. Whilst being berthed at Dunodin on Wednesday afternoon the steamer Airino struck the pier with some violence. Tho wharf was damaged to some extent, and several piles arc stated .to have been twistoi, and the decking to havo suffered sagging. As a i-esult of this damage tho Otago Harbour Board has forwarded to Obtain Bent a hill for some £145, but tho captain repudiates this, and contends that the board io his debtor, as some of the vessel's plates above the water-lino have been bent inwards. The position (rays the "Otago Daily Times") is at present an interesting one, and it is stated that the matter may not end here. In tho meantime, the Customs Department is holding an inquiry into the mishap, and tho Arrino loft Port Chalmers for Wellington at 1.20 p.m. on Saturday,. and arrived hero yesterday. •

EAST COAST SEEVIOE. The Auckland office of tho HuddartParker, Company has been advised that tho steamer Victoria, which 1 haa been under going an extensive overhaul' and survey at Sydney, Is to leave that port on October 7 with transhipments from the Wildenfels from :'Now York, for Wellington direct-, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. Tho Victoria will stay at Dunedin until October 20, when ohe will soil for East Coast ports, and Auckland, in place, of the. Wcstralia. The Wcstralia will leave.Auckland on October 18, and will remain there until October 23, when she will al6o take up her former running on the Dunodin-Eost Coast-Auckland service, in place of tho Warrimoo. On her northward trip the Wcetr.ilia will arrive at Auckland on 'alternate Thursdays, and will soil. on the folawing Saturday for way ports and Dunedin. as was hor custom last summer. TRANSHIPMENTS FROM HOME. . Tlio Union Company's big oargo-caj<rior Waitemata is due in port oarly this morning from Sydney, via Auckland. The vessel's cargo was made up of transhipments from several Home liners which were en route to New eZaland, but which have been detained at Sydney, for various reasons. \ which amounted to 7100 tons, was consigned to Auckland, Wellington, Lyttclton, and Dunedin, and about 3000 tons hes been discharged at Auckland. Included in the ahipincnt is 590C0 tons of general merchandise from the Shaw, Pavill and Albion liner Rangatira, from Liverpool, the balance bora!; from the AngloEgyptian from MbntToal, and the Tasmanic and Inrtfcinic from Home ports. From the Anglo-Egyptian 73 motor-cars were token on. board for Now Zealand ports. KIA OUA LEAVES MONTREAL. Tho New Zealand Shipping Company's chartered steamer Kia Ora has left Mon- ! treat for Adelaide, Melbourne,' Sydney, and New Zealand porta. The vessel, according to a wireless racssige' received by the local agents, should arrive from London about daylight this morning. There, are Bfl saloon and 123 steerage pasfieng'cre on board the Manuka, which left Sydney for Wellington at 5 p.m. on Friday. On arlvn! here to-morrow morning the vessel will land 637 tons of oargo for Wellington and 64 tons for transhipment to northern ports. The Wellington Patent Slip is-at present occupied by tho Kararnu, and it is expected that she will be ready for sea to-morrow. The Waiixxi, will arrive here from Groymouth on Thursday to . be slipped. Southern' oargo will bo loaded by tho Oorin.na at Wellington to-morrow. A stranger to Wellington—the steamer Onouri—arrived from Lyttclton yesterday with a. cargo of railway material aud produce for the Government. Subsequently tho Opouri will go on to Greymouth. Tho Nikau will resume running in tho Wellington-Nelson-Motueka trade Ito-mor-row. A cablegram received by the Auckland office of the Union Company states that U.M.S. Makura arrived at, Vancouvor on Friday, September 25., Tho liner left Auckland on tho evening of Tuesday, September 8, and.reached her destination one day later than sohedule time. Tho Union Company's collier Wairuna was to have loft Newcastle for Wellington on Saturday with a full load of coal. For tho purpose of undergoing overhaul and survey, the. Blackball Coal Oo.'s collier Ng.atoro will como to Wellington from New Plymouth this week. The Taviuni, which arrived at Dunedin from Greymouth yesterday, will be overhauled at Port Chalmers this week also. Tho Navua is to bo dispatched from Auckland on October 19 for Suva, Samoa, and tho Friendly Islands. She should leavo Suva on the return trip on November 4, and arrive at Auckland on November 9. Sho will come south to discharge fruit if sufficient inducement offers, otherwise the freight wfll be transhipped at Auckland. ,
