BOWLERS' PATRIOTISM
ONE CLUB SPENDS £23 ON FLOWERS.
A novel scene was witnessed on tho Wellington Bowling Club's green, when, at 'the request of Miss Muir, daughter of Mr. W. M. Muir, ono of tho oldest members of the club, a choice lot of cinerarias (in pots) wero sold by aric tion in aid of the Patriotic Fund. . The salo, which was conducted by Mr. Alex ; ander Wilson, showed that one only has to bo possessed of a bright idea and a generous impulse to help tho fund along. Tho first lot sold was a basket of beautiful Marechal Neil roses, sot in a bed of delicate maidonhair ferns. Tho basket was first knocked down for £3, then for ■G2 and subsequently tho roses wero sold separately, and in the end tho basket of roses realised £10 4s. Gd. There was somoMively bidding for'tho cinerarias, twenty-two pots realising £12 13s. This brought the total- amount raised through the sale of Miss Muir's flowers up to £23 Os. Gd., which was •m excellent afternoon's work.
