Ladles' Hospitality Club. The committee of ladies who have arranged the Sydney Street Schoolroom as a club room for the members of the Expeditionary Fore© had a quietly informal opening on Saturday night. There was no time to send out invitations to any citizens interested in the movement, and there' Was no ceremony of any kind. The room was decorated with patriotic colours and pot plants lent by Mrs. H. D. Bell, and arranged with card and reading tables, with games and magazines. \ The writing room was well patronised and appreciated. A programme.of songs and recitations gavo much pleasure, and supper was arranged about 9 o'clock. Tho proceedings finished with the singing of the. National Anthem. On Sunday the club was open in the afternoon at half-past 4, and Mrs. F. M. B. Fisher and a party of friends were kept busy serving refreshments from 'half-past 5 to 7. The committee is very grateful for -the offers of help which have been received, and so far . only three weeks | evenings have been arranged for. The honorary secretary will make it known when more help is required. Gifts of money or provisions will be gladly received, and any member of tho commit- . tee will be pleased to give information, as to the special requirements for the club. The gymnasium is to be fitted up, and-will be ready for use oh Tuesday. The club room,will be open every evening from 6 o'clock. Contributions have been received from Mrs. H. D. Bell, £1 and stationary; Canon Garland, £1 '10s.; Miss Coates, £1; Mrs. Coleridge, 10s.; Lady Godley, 10s.; Mrs. A. de B. Brandon, £5; Mrs. J. W. Salmond, £1 10s;; Levin and Co., 501b. coffee; ScoulIflr and Co., loan of furniture and decorations; Mrs. D. A. Ewan, stationary and games; Mrs. Moorhouse; gamos; Mrs. J. Joseph, game sand cards; Shaw, Savill.and Co., flags: E. W. Mills, punch ball, foil and gloves; Ferguson and Osborh, games; Mrs. AY. Young, cards'; David Anderson, howls and bucketß, etc.; W.F.C.A., butter and cheese; R. Fletcher, carting. A largo number of magazines and newspapers have also been received from friends. Several hundreds of members of tho Expeditionary Force visited.the club last evening. Ladles' Coif. The eclectic golf match played at Johnsonville for a club presented by Mr. Watt was concluded on Saturday In the senior division, Miss Batham was the winner, her score being 45. Mrs. Burton.and Miss Yarrall tied fof second place, with a score of-'49 each. In the junior section, Miss Turner and' Miss Bakewell tied with a-score of 55 each.
.'. The following is tho draw for the putting competition for tho Bourke Cup to be held at Johnsonville next Saturday :—Mrs. Hirschberg v. Miss E. Grapes, Miss Davis v. Mrs. Burton, Miss Batham v. Miss Sullivan, Miss Grapes v. Miss T. Bakewell, Mrs. Bakewell v. Miss Price, Miss Yarrall v. Miss Reith. The above matches must bo played noxt'Saturday morning. The draw for the gamos to bo played in the afternoon will be posted hi tho club hdiiso. Sals of Work at Karori. Tho annual sale of work in connection with St. Mary's - "Anglican Church, Karori, will bo opened by Mrs. Massoy •ui Wednesday, afternoon in the Parish Hall. The ladies of tho guild lave been working hard for .somo tirao.past in order to' provide an ample supply of ■ usoful and ornamental articles, and the salo promises to be a very successful one. It will bo continued on Thursday. It is thought that many of those who will pay a visit to Karori on Thursday afternoon to • witness • the military manoeuvres will be glad to avail themselves of tho opportunity of obtaining afternoon-tea, which -will be provided at a charge of sixpence, admission to. tho bazaar boing free.
