LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE SETTLEMENT OF CONSOLS AMOUNTS POSTPONED , (Rec. October 4, 10.30 a.m.) London, October 2. The London Stock Exchange Committee has postponed settlement of the August, September, and October Consols account, and the ordinary accounts up to mid-October until November 18, and the November Consols account until December 1. The committee has taken powers to suspend the rules in reference to defaults. Those steps are regarded as a preliminary to the partial reopening of the Exchange. GRANTS FOR UNEMPLOYED. (Rec. October 4, 410 p.m.) London, October 3. The British Board of Trado has completed arrangements for special unemployed grants to trades unions where unemployment is abnormal. The grant amounts to one-third or one-sixth of the associations' unemployed benefit fund. GERMAN WAR LOAN. London, October 2. The "Cologne Gazette," in urging that, subscriptions bo made to the war loan, says: "If Germany goes under our fortunes and property aro lost." ! DISMAY IN VIENNA. AUSTRIA SHORT OF WHEAT. London, October 2. Austria is short of wheat and dealers have been sent to neutral countries to purchase some. Rumania's prohibition of tho export of corn has caused dismay in Vienna. BANK OF AUSTRALASIA. OUTLOOK SATISFACTORY. London, October 2. Lord George Hamilton, presiding at a meeting of shareholders of tho Bank of Australasia, referring to the war, said that Australasia had a great advantage, as a large proportion of the oxport consisted of foodstuffs which would command enhanced prices. for wool suitable for khaki, etc. If tho ivar was prolonged, requirements of warm clothing were likely to oxtend the demand for other of wool. The provision made in recent years to meet droughts or local financial crises would be available to meet the consegucnccs of the war. The position of the bank was very strong.
