TRAGEDY AT THE ZOO
THE MURDER OF A FERRET,
A tragic little drama was enacted at a cage at the Zoo yesterday afternoon in the presence of a oiowd of spectators. The actors' in the drama were two ferrets, whether v one insulted, annoyed, or aroused jealousy in the. other , no one will ever know, yet the one fastened its teeth in tie neck of tho other in a grip that was nevor to loosen till death oame. The affair happened quite suddenly, and the first tiling tho people in the vicinity of the cago know of ft'was by the agonised 6hrieks which came from the cage. The attacking ferret seemed to instinctively realise that its victim was attracting attention and strove only to tighten its murderous grip on the neck. "Soon the died away, the struggles grow fainter and fainter, and the morbid crowd of humans round the' cage saw "the victim" give a few convulsive twitches and die. But its assailant was not satisfied. It had taken its companion's life, but it wanted more. When the last visitor had left, the Zoo it was still holding on to the neckof its brother animal. The Zoo has its tragedies even as the city.'
