FATALITY ON TROOPSHIP.
OLD WHAM? IDENTITY KILLED. • An o ld identity of the waterfront, John White, of Roseneath, mot his death as the result of an accidcnt on the wharf yesterday morning. \\hito and a number 01" workmen were engaged in covering up 0110 of the hatches on Troopship No. 11 (the Athemc), and while placing a tarpaulin 111 position, \vintc overbalanced and fell a distanco of ahout 24ft. down ,the_ hold. His companions rushed to his assistance, and prepared to render first aid, but White died within three or four minutes after his fall. The injuries of the unfortunate man included a broken neck and bad fracture of the base; of the skull.. , Deceased has been-working on mio wharves for the past thirty .years. He was very popular among his co-work-ers, and of a particularly cheerful disposition. He was a married man. 53 years of age, and leaves a widow ana grown-up family. ■ Tlio body was removed to the morguo, and an inquest is to be held.
