CONCERTS FOR THE TROOPS

Another successful variety concert was held in "U" Shed on the Queen's Whiirf last evening, when fully 700 members of the Expeditionary Force and - their friends * attended. Items were contributed by the following:— Clog dance, Private Stevens; boxing bout, between Seamen AVilley and Laddington and the Ellis Bros., aged 8 and

7 respectively; cornet solo, Trumpeter Gibbes; violin solo, Band-Sergeant Edwards ; stop-dance, Fireman Brown, Troopship No. 5; English coueertiua selections, Mr. Louis Jones; songs, Messrs. IjCO Buckeridge, , G. Bell and Laslet Exton; humorous stories, Mr. R. F. Bishop and Mr. M'Cormick; guitar selections, Mr. Archer. Tho accompaniments were played by Miss Bell- | worthy and Mr. Jas. Dykes.

NEXT WEEK'S BOOKINGS,

Mr. J. Dykes and those assisting him have received so many offers of assistance ill the arrangement of concerts in "U" Shed for the men of the Expeditionary Force that programmes have already becu arranged for nightly concerts up till to-morrow week. The bookings so far are as follow: — Friday, October 2 (To-night).—Picture Show by the Amalgamated Picturo Theatre Proprietors of Wellington. Saturday, October 3. —Artillery Brigade concert. , Monday, ''October 4. — Victoria League's entertainment; Tuesday, October s.—Mr. Norman Aitken and party. ', "Wednesday, October 6. —Highland Society's Concert. Thursday, October 7.—Messrs. Lyon and "Wilson.'s party. t Friday, October B.—Salvation Army's concert. '. Saturday, October 9. —Picture Show. The Expeditionary Force concert, to be given by the men, is to be held in the Grand Opera House on "Wednesday next. ' Tlio Opera House has been kindly lent by Messrs. J"! 0. AVilliamson Ltd., free of charge. The proceeds vnVl bo in aid of tlio "War Fund.

At a meoting of the Patriotic Sports rmd Entertainment Sub-Committee liold yesterday afternoon it ivas decided to liold a concert in the Grand Opera House on Wednesday' evening next, when the items of the programme are to bo contributed 'by the men of His Majesty's Navy and the members of the Expeditionary Force. Mr. J. Dykes has consented to co-operate with the military end naval authorities ui arraying the programme. I Messrs. J. C. \Yi\lianison, X/fcd., have lent the use of the Grand Opera House ■free of charge.. The proceeds of the concert will bo donated to 'the War Fund.' .
