Information has been received by the Marino Department from Cape Campbell lighthouse to the effect, that an earthquake which occurred there yesterday hod , disarranged the apparatus, preventing the light from being (mown, and in consoquenco no light will be exhibited from the station until further notice. The Department has sent the lighthouse expert over to put the light in order, and duo notico will he given as to when it will bo again exhibited. • Later advice received in Auckland concorning the auxiliary scow Fairburn, which went ashore on the beach outside the Opotiki Bar on Tuesday morning, September 22, 6tates that the vessel has moved further along the beach. Beyond the fact that her rudder was carried away, and a quantity of copp& sheathing torn off her hull, the" Fairburn docs not appear to bo badly damaged. It is understood that her cargo of bricks is being discharged, and k is anticipated that the scow will br. floated off without much difficulty with the rising tide whon empty. Mr. Kershaw, late chief officer of the Kia Ora. has been promoted to be chief of the Tainui. Mr. Thurston hae joined tho Kia Ora as chief officer. Had it not been for the strong.southerly weather, it was anticipated that the steamer Wiarau would have left Blenheim for Wellington. In a statement to a Greymouth reporter concerning tho loss of the Kairaka, the captain of the Potone stated:—The £airaki and this ship were in. sight of each other all day on-Friday, and about 8' o'clook that evening she passed us about four miles on the other Aide of Cape Foulwind, making to pass outside of tho Capo.
