The veil of mystery which has shrouded the operations of the 'Allies . Prance during the past few days has been drawn aside to permit of a glimpse of the situation. To-day's news shows that although there •' is very little change in the situation along the Allies' Centre and Right, \ events have been moving rapidly on the Left. The enemy's Right is officially reported to havo been surrounded, while -unofficial reports state that it has been actually broken, and that the requisitioning of a large number of automobiles seems to have justified the inference that the Germans are in retreat, and that' an onergetio pursuit is to be maintained. At . air points the Allies axe in close contact with the enemy, whose desperate attempts to keep them at arm's length betoken a . growing nervousness over the .situation. In the Eastern'theatre, the Russians are steadily proceeding with the task of subduing ' the great fortress of Przemysl, the Austrians are . re- •' treating in large numbers, while the Muscovite advance guards ; 'are'stated to have'entered Hungary at several points. Further north, [ • the Germans are said to bo rearranging their plans, with a view to establishing themselves securely in winter, quarters. From the frontier posts in the oversea theatres comes the news of the Allies' 6uc- : cesses in. the German Cameroohs, while in Kiao-chau the Japanese have fought a successful minor action with the German defenders, 1 capturing 50 prisoners and four guns. The notorious raiding cruiser Bmden ib the subject of quite a budget of new3-to-day. She is credited l .with the sinking of four more ships in the past few days, and the cap- ' ture of a fifth, while from two sources there have come reports of the capture of the raider herself by Japanese cruisers. It is reported that there is great naval activity along the Kiel Canal, and, according to one statement, the time is almost at hand for the German High Sea '' Fleet to sally"forth in a supreme, attempt to break the grim blockade , which is being maintained by the British fighting ships all along the - coast. Austria's admitted losses are now stated' to be estimated.at 150,000 killed, 200,000 wounded, and 200,000 made prisoners. *
