Provided this happened, the .Kuahinc eliould make Wellington on Saturday next. Tho c;ri;o for New Zealand amounts to 6000 .tone.
GEIUIAN TRANSHIPMENTS. Cargo ex the German steamers Pfaly, Lothcriiigcu, Grcifswald, <md Tlmringer, which have been detained by the Commonwealth Government at Melbourne, will bo taken on to Sydney by those vessels in oharge ol prize crews. Tho freight will bo transhipped at Sydney to New Zcaland ports, provided consignees advlee tho local agents for rac vessels (the Union Company) that it is required. Shippers will have to pay aTI charges ol delivery. Unless , instructions aro received to forward all through cargo on to its destination, the same will be bonded at Sydney at consignees' risk and csyensc.
SCREENING OF HARBOUR LIGHTS. The low-level light at Pcncarrow at tho entrance to Wellington Harbour is to bo cxtinßuiehcd on and after to-night; and tho i'oncarrow high-level light will bo screened bo that it will not show out to sea. Tho fog signal at the heads will not operate until further notice.
THE OLD S.S. NAIRNSHIRE. After a long and chequered career of 25 years, a steamer which was at one timo well known in the Sow Zealand trade- recently came to her end in the Bay of Biscay. Built in 1839 by Hawthorn, Lcelie and Co., Ltd.,, at Ncweastle-on-Tyne, she was launched under tho name of Nairnshire. Sho was a Et«amer of 3281 tons gro;e register, and was specially built for , , tho frozen meat trade between Now. Zealand and London, and she worked regu-laa-ly in that trade for oome years. Then ITessrs. Turnbull, Martin and Co. sold her to the Ducal Line, and she was renamed the Duke of Norfolk. Sold out again, she was .renamed tho Marccllus, and then she wns sold to Swedish owners and called Johanna. A few months ago she was again Gold to Gtoo owners, and named tho Pericles. The Parkles was carrying a cargo' of coal from Swansea- to Alexandria when she met trouble and was abandoned in a sinking condition. The crew woe taken off by tho steamer Bintang, and landed α-t Havre. The Pericles -was uninsured at tho time of her loes. ■
