THE FISHING SEASON
OPENING TO-MORROW.
The fishing season, opens to-morrow. Inquiries as to the prospects show that the Wellington Acclimatisation Society's Vaiigers, who have recently been distributing young fish in the rivers and streams, have reported that the waters aro vcr.v well stocked,-and,that the fish are of good size. The position is that the rivers are in a condition to furnish excellont sport, but whether or not thero will be the _ usual • number of sportsnien to take advantage of the conditions is one of the questions which is very difficult to answer at the present time. Tho war is the factor which makea for uncertainty. For one thing, a number of the military officers who aro going to the front used to devoto a great deal of time to the plying I of the rod. . '
Fishing enthusiasm, by the way, sometimes precedes the season: The Wellington Society has been advise dthat some country "sports," who have obtained licenses from the post offices have started, operations already, despite the fact that the licenses state expressly that they take effect from October 1. These cases aro being inquired into.
