MR. SCOTLAND'S NEW BIPLANF
SERIOUSLY DAMAGED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) . Christohurcb, .September 28. Mr. H. Scotland made a flight in his new Caudron biplane at Burnside today, but in descending bumped the earth, soriously damaging the machine. The aviator escaped with a blow over tho eye. A fortnight's work will bo necessary to put t3ie aeroplane m order n"ain, many portions of the frame •requiring to bo rebuilt. ■ Interviewed af-. ter the accident Mr. Scotland said that l he felt that the machine was not._answering too well as soon as he got into the air and he found it difficult to manago het\ When lie was alighting tlio elevating planes would not do their work properly and tho machine could not recover from tho steep angle of its descent. The first touching of the earth was successfully but a 6eeond bump saw the machine tip forward and before lie could do anything tlio crash was. over.
