PATRIOTIC CONCERTS.
ORIENTAL "BAY FUNCTION. The patriotic' concert given by 'the residents of Roseneath and Oriental Bay, in the Oriental Bay Kiosk, last night, was an entire success. The large concert hall was well filled, and a very enjoyable programme was given. The arrangements had been capably carried out by Mr. T. W. 'Ward - , and an enthusiastic committee, assisted by the hon. secretary, Mr. A. E. Shakes. The concert was under the patronage of His Excellency the Governor (Lord Liverpool), while the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luka) was present. The programme opened with the National Anthem, and items were given as follow:— Chorus, "The Lads in Navy Blue," Rosoneath School; orchestral selection, Gas Company's Orchestra; songs, "The Secret of the Tide" and "Entreaty," Mr. S. Laslett-Exton; song, "L'Ete," Miss Gladys Watkins; song, "Quand tu Chantes," Miss Segrief; songs, "Minnie Song,'.' "Son of Mine,' "The Rebel," and "Up in the Saddle," Mr. Hamilton Hodges; 'cello, "Czardas," Mr. Frank Johnstono;. chorus, "Under Sealed Orders," Roseneath School; intermezzo, AVellington Gas Company s Orchestra; waltz song, "Tom Jones," Miss T. Barry; monologue, "Coming Home," Mr./N. Aitken; song, "The Admiral's Broom," Mr. C. F. Hickmott; song, "My Ships,"; Miss Eileen Driscoll; quartet, Good Night, Beloved," Miss Gladys Watkins, Miss .Segrief, Mr. S. Laslett-Exton, Mr. Hamilton Hodges; solo and chorus, Mα - . Hamilton Hodges and Roseneath School. During the evenings gifts as follow were put up for auction:—Two paintings/ presented by Lady' Godley; Maori rug (Mr. W. Bird) •,, music-stool (Mr. S. S. Williams.; pair nekUglasses (Mr. H. Spear); biscuit barrel (Mr. M. L. Marie); 61b. box tea (Mr. Bowen). The receipts were estimated at £25, but tho full returns are not yet made up. • THE BROOKLYN CONCERT. ' The Masonic Hall at Brooklyn was paokod to thedoors last night when a concert was held in aid of the Patriotic and Distress Funds. It is expected that the proceeds will amount to nearly £20. During tho evening a patriotic speech' was delivered by the Rev. J. H. White, and a brief speech was also delivered by the chairman of the concert committee, Mr. Aston Brown, who thanked those present for the enthusiasm displayed and the liberal response made. The programme included items by tho Wellington Harmonic Society and the Lyric Quartet Party, a cornet eolo by Mr. Harry Jupp, songs by Mrs. Kennedy, Mr. Charles Clarkson, Mr. Walter Warren, Mr. Charles Hickmott, and Mr. Harry Dunne, and recitations by Miss Ngaire Lommon and Mr. Fraser Thompson. The lnst-named was recalled throe times for his recital of the "Ab-sent-minded Beggar," and the coins thrown into a flag during this item amounted to £2 os. 9d. The accompaniments were played by Mr.- H. Temple-W-hite. -
