SONG OF THE REGIMENTS
"IT'S A LON& WAY TO TIPPEE- ■ . \ ARY." ' "Chanting the etirring lines of. "The Marseillaise" ana joyously singing "It's a Long Way to Tipperary," the khaki-clad columns of the finest Expeditionary Force England has ever dispatched from her shores, marched amid rolling bursts of cheers through the narrow streets of Boulogne." The above is the text of a oable message which appeared in The Dominion a,few days after England landed! the first of her forces on tlie Continent last month. Since that tims other cable messages have been received remarking on the song which the regiments seem to have adopted as a marching song. The English' "Tommy" is very fond of a song, and as the hit and swing of a lively ditty lightens the march 'and animates the spirits. of men on the march, a good deal of liberty is allowed in that regard, when the forces are not in touch with the enemy. "It's a.Long Way. to Tipporary" is a song written and composed by Jack Judge and Harry Williams, and Sβ, of course, written in "tempo di marcia." Hers are the words:— TJp to mighty London came an Irishman one day, As the streets are payed with fold, sure everyone was gey, Singing Bongs of Piccadilly, Strand, end Leicester. Bq.ue.re, .■' ■ Till Poddy got excited, then, lie flhonte* to them thero:— . . . , Ohonis (reseated after each. Terse): It's a lons way to Tipperaiy, It's a long way to go; ( It's a long way to TippeTttry, To the sweeteet girl I know: Goodbye, Piccadilly, Farewell, Leicester Square, It's a long way to Tipperaiy, But my heart's right there. Paddy wrote a letter to hia Irish Molly o', Saying: "Should you not receive it, write and let me know, If I make mistakes in spelling, Molly, dear," said he, "Remember, it's the pern that's bad, don't 'ay the blame on mo." Molly wrote a neat Teply to Irish Paddy o', Saying: "IHko Moloney wants to merry me. end so' Leave the Strand and Piccadilly, or you'll bo to blame, ' For love has fairly drove me silly, hoping you're the same."
