MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Miramar Borough affairs 'were discussed at a meeting of the council last night, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr. F. Townsend) and Councillors Elizabeth Huntly. S. M. Stone, M. Tracy, 'and H. Hawthorne. A letter was received from tile secretary of the Tramway Board of Management, reading as follows:—"In view of the installation of slot telephones along the various tramway routes in the city, it has been decided to make use orthese telephones for departmental purposes, and to dismantle the present track telephones, which are connected Up to the power-house in Jervois Quay. As there are several of these track totephones installed on your system, it is suggested that they should be connected up to your power-house, so that in the event of a breakdown the. car employees could get a message forwarded from your power-house to the city. The cost of- this alteration will be very small, and I shall therefore be pleased to receive your approval of the proposal." The communication was referred to the Miramar power-station engineer for report._ In his periodical report, the Borough Engineer stated that eight additional permits for sewer connections had been I's.sued making the total number 258. Fifty feet of the sewer leading' to the pumps at Karaka Bay had been opened up to locate a serious break. In that short length eight joints were found to be very badly made, and other serious defects had been discovered and remedied. Tree-planting had been carried out in Ludlam Street at a cost of £13 Os. 6d., which sum would be refunded by the ratepayers. ' The report was adopted.
