A GARIBALDI LEGION
(Rec. September 25, 1.40 a.m.) Rome, September 23. Giuseppe Garibaldi and five thousand "redshirts" are proceeding to an unknown destination. To-morrow afternoon the annual football match between teams representing the Petone Workingmeri's Club and the ; Petone Junior Club will be played on , the Recreation Ground. It has been decided to make a small charge for admission, and the proceeds are to be ■ handed over to the Relief Fund. At last night's meeting of the Wei-., lington East District Cricket Club tho chairman (Mr. F. A. Midlane) said it was very pleasing to notice that. ten members of the club had given -their services for tho defence of their country. ' Tbe names of these were Messrs. Baiter, M'Girr, Watson, W. Smith,. E, Hollis, Lennox, T. Young, Hughes. Gibson, Hodge. The three last-named were . engaged in duty at the forts, while tho • others had joined the Expeditionary •' Force. It was decided to place on < record the club's appreDiation of these j members in giving their services for tho defence of their country and the Empire.
Russian reservists domiciled in New Zealand have been notified that their Government has not found it necessary to call to the colours thoso reservists :, residing in foreign countries, says the Auckland "Herald." They have been , reminded, howover, that no amnesty \ has been granted as yet to -deserters • from the army or navy.
