OTACO TOURING TEAM. DEFEATED BY MAULBOROUGH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Blenheim, September 22. The Otago touring team was decisively ' defeated by Marlborough itoday. The play of the visitors lacked vigour, and the tired feeling was very evident. Their forwards were successful in the tight, but in the loose the Marlborough attack prevailed, and was often irresistible. The visitors' backs made few attempts at combined work, and their general play wae uncertain. . In the first spell the local team played with the su nin their favour, the only 6oore being two penalty goals by Dew (Marlborough). Early in the second half, good play by Dunkley resulted in a score by Skelton, for Marlborough. No goal was'kicked. Shortly after, .Geary scored for the visitors, no goal resulting. .The. outcome of a fine run by Irving was another, score for Ma.rlborough by Haterley. Dew goaled. Fogarty' scored ,next for Otago, and Watson converted. Marlborough. dominated the play in the closing stages. Cottrell and O'Rouike scored tries, both being converted. 1 Owing to being unaible to raise a team, the Wairarapa Union has notified local Rugby officials of the.cancelling of the representative game which was to be played in Wellington on Saturday next. With the exception of a deciding game in the Fourth-class_ between Selwyn and St. J-a-mes, which is to bo played at Athletic Park next Saturday week, the Rugby season locally is closed.
