James Allen (Minister of Defence) inspected tho Auckland section of the Expeditionary Force at camp this morning. The weather was beautifully fine. The Minister inspected every arm of the Force thoroughly, after whiph the tioops marched past. 'Ihey then formed a hollow.square, and were addressed by the Minister. Mr. Allen said lie had now seen prao- ' tically the whole of the troops which, were going away, and was highly gratified at .the status they had attained. They were going to tight for the Motherland and 'her glorious traditions, and for their own country. He hoped they would win honour and glory for the future generations of New Zealanders to read of what the Dominion had done in this time of trial and our Empire's need. - The Government had more than fulfilled its bargain with the Mother Country. Realising it was its duty, it was sending the forces away more fully equipped than was anticipated. It had doubled the eighteen-pounders, and was sending a brigade of artillery, fully equipped and well manned, as well as Maxims. Furthermore, they were sending the best of their officers, because it was fully assured that it should not entrust tho lives of men to any but those most-capable to lead them.

FIELD AMBULANCE. A SPECIAL FUND,WANTED. The following appeal has been issued in the Wellington Military District by Lieutenant-Colonel C. M. Begg, Officer Commanding the Field Ambulance of the' Expeditionary Force:— i "Before our departure we are endeavouring to raise a special fund for an object which we are assured will appeal to all, and especially to those who have rolations and friends enrolled in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. It la evident that the large majority of sick and wounded New Zealanders must bp drafted homo through, the medium of the New Zealand Field Ambulance, and it is essential that there must be a fund available to assist invalids on their return journey to the Dominion. ' , "Extra, comforts in the way of supplies, clothes, improved accommodation or other essentials''to ensure favourable and fairly .comfortable conditions oh the return journey will be often urgently needed, and will in no small way. contribute to the well-being and ultimate Tecovery of invalided troopers. It is hoped that we' shall be able to raise a sum of £1600, which shall, be, strictly allocated to the object in view, under the control of the medical officers attached to the Field Ambulance Corps. . "Major' O'Neill, of Dunedm, and Major Murray, of Auckland, are now raising funds in their respective centres for this purpose. "We feel sure that tho generosity and public spirit that has always characterised the dwellers in Wellington district will be again manifested in the support of a scheme upon which the health and lives of the men under our charge may in no small degree depend. Any money subscribed for this purpose should be telegraphed to the Bank of Now Zealand, London, to 'Field Ambulance Aid Fund,' which will bo administered by the three senior officers of the Field Ambulance. I hope to raise in tho Wellington Military District about £600."
