TRANSPORTS AT THE WHARVES
DEPARTURE IN PROGRESS, There will be brisk activity to-day aboard the troopships in port. It is reported that the Maunganui, Arawa, and Limerick, which have boon lying at anchor in the stream for days past, will como alongside the wharves to-day. The troopship. Orari was shifted over from tho Taranaki Street Wharf to the Glasgow Wharf yesterday afternoon. The troopships mentioned, it is understood, will be berthed for the purpose of replenishing their "bunker" supplies of coal, as well as taking in water in order to bo ready to embark their complement of troops at Wellington early next week- ' ' ' Tlio steamers are undor orders to bo ready_ to depart at any time and will sail, it is stated, with sealed instructions. Tho three cruisers on tho Now Zealand station will form part of the escort for the troopships' convoy. A junction, will bo made with the Australian transports at a given rendezvous, and tho 26 transports and ten escorting cruisers will then leavo for their destinations. Tho necessary rolling-stock is being accumulated at Palmerston North for the transportation of the troops to Wellington r.iid they may bo entrained at any time. Tho-troops may be on board the ships for some days before tho order arrives to put to "sea.
