RIFLE-SHOOTING
HIGHLAND CLUB'S MEETING. The annual meeting of the Highland Rifle Club was held in the Garrison Hall last night. Mr. S. R. Shannon (deputy-president)' was in the chair, and there was a 1 small attendance. The annual report stated that members had every reason to be.proud of last season's achievement. - ■ They started with a membership of .25, and were able to maintain three targets through.out the season. Tho A , team 'met with success against Suburbs, Old Navals, and Staff Clubs, and only once met with reverse, at tho hands of the Petone Rifle Club. The club's representatives did well at tho 'Auckland, Wellington, and Trentham meetings, shooting tliemselvea into the finals, and the members were to be. congratulated on the high stand-, ard of shooting maintained. The rifle clubs had formed a Rifle Club's Reserve ; Corps. The prospects for the season would suffer, as the president (Mr. J. Macdonald) would not be in town till tho New Year, and other members werein Samoa. To date, they had enrolled twelvo new members. Thanks were due to Lieutenant-Colonel C. D. Macintosh, Messrs. Menzies, M'Millan, Stott, and Captain Hobbs for trophies, and to tho staff and committee for services rendered. . ■ The balance-sheet showed liabilities as £9 13s. The chairman stated-that the club had been most-generous in regard to trophies. The patron (LieutenantColonel Macintosh) and the president (Mr. Macdonald), lie- said, had promised to make up the deficiency. A vote of thanks was accorded to them for their generous action. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. : Tho election , of officers resulted as follows :—Patron, Lieutenant-Colonel C. D. Macintosh (re-elected); president, Mr. Macdonald (re-elected); depnty-presi-dont, Mr. S. R. Shannon (re-elected); vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Marsden, Stott, J. M. D. White, J. MacFerren,D. MacMillan, Menzies, and Captain Hobbs; treasurer, Mr. J. Cotterill; secretary (pro tern), J. Peart; handicapper.'Mr. A. S. Honderson; committee, Messrs. Eves, Connibear, Hayes, Sned- [ don, Cofcterill, and Martin. The club is desirous of increasing its membership, and' active efforts are to bo made on parade-nights of the Rifle Reserve Corps to induce new members to join. At the Oddfellows' Hall, Upper Hntt, last night, the Trentham Social Club gavo an entertainment, the proceqds from which are to be forwarded to thor funds for the benefit of the British and Belgian poor, The function was highly satisfactory, financially and otherwise.
