THE CAPTURE OF GERMAN NEW GUINEA SMART WORK BY AUSTRALIANS o Sydney, September. 16. Rear-Admiral Sir George E. Patey, in a later message regarding the capture of Herbertshohe, reports:—"Seaman Moffat succumbed to wounds. The enemy's loss is unoertain, but is estimated at from twenty to thirty killed.' The prisoners comprise seventeen German commissioned. and non-com-missioned officers, including the commandant, and 56 native police." He adds: "Considering the dense bush and the narrow road, the pits and trenches, and the mines laid, and'the superior force opposing us, our casualties were slight. Mr. Coolc has revived congratulatory messages on the success of the expedition, including one from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, and one from the Governor of New Zealand. NAVY'S WOBK REVIEWED. Sydney, September 16. Senator Milieu, in i statement reviewing the operations of tho Australian Squadron, said that it was acting in cooperation with the China Squadron. A search for the enemy's cruisers had been prosecuted, and the wireless stations in the Pacific had been put out of action. The operations had also included the covering of the New' Zealand expedition's seizure of Samoa. In attending first to tho requirements of the sister Dominion, Australia showed a disinterestedness that would certainly he appreciated in New Zealand. After referring to the capture ;of tho German possessions in New Guinea, New Britain, and the Bismarck Archipelapo, he said that the operations would still call for some detached work beforo / they were complete.
