RESTRICTIONS REMOVED
ON WITHDRAWALS FROM POST OFFICE. The Postmaster-Genornl (the . Hon. R. H. Rhodes) was able' last evening to make "the gratifying announcement to the House that his investigation of the transactions of the Post Office Savings Bank for the first two weeks of the present month has justified him in deciding to withdraw the restriction upon withdrawals which has been in force during the past few weeks, and under which no more than £2 could bo withdrawn unless on tho giving of seven, days' notice! Mr. Rhodes says that, depositors in a large number of cases, after giving notice of intended withdrawals, cancelled the notices. These instances represented no less a sum than £22,331, whilst, in other cases, representing £53,122, the depositors, after giving notico of withdrawals, did not avau themselves of the right, tho two amounts making a total of £75,453. The transactions both in deposits and withdrawal}' had lately- been somewhat restricted, but the position was so satisfactory that. tho present restrictions upon withdrawals could be removed. after to-day.
