At the monthly meeting of the Mana-' watu A. and P. Association ■ to-day it was reported that, of fifteen truck-loads which the Railways Department 1 required to be guaranteed to justify the running of a special stock train from New Plymouth to tho next show,-eight had been already taken and the others were easily assured. . . By a system of checking_ times of departure from town and arrival at camp, the Kairanga County Council has secured interesting evidence against eleven taxi drivers, charged with travelling at a dangerous speed. The times taken indicated speeds of 25 miles per hour. When resultant cases were heard hi Court some of the defendants declared their top speed to be 20 miles an hour, which they considered a safe ono. AMasterton defendant considered 30 miles an hour safe. Judgment was reserved. Nicholas Carter, a labourer,' of Foxtqn, was yesterday acquitted on a charge of severely assaulting a flax-mil-ler named Frederick S. Eastou. Tho Magistrate considered that tho assailant was probably another person who, in tho darkness, imitated tho defendant's voice.
