Dunedin, and lately from Port Chalmers, was drowned in the municipal swimming baths last evening. The body was identified this morning. An inquiry was held at Maungatua to-day concerning the death of Mrs. Ncill Black (aged 48), who had committed suicide yesterday by hanging herself. Evidence showed that deceased had been in poor health for, two years, and of late had been depressed. She had given hints that she might disappear without warning. Deceased was found hanging with a cord round her head. returned a verdict of death from asphyxia, due to strangulation. BUSHMAN'S TERRIBLE A serious accident occurred in thb Akatarawa bush on Monday afternoon, whereby a bushman named Leonard M'Ghie had both his legs fractured. Ho had almost felled a treo when another, which had been cut by his mate, fell aoross a 6tout vine suspended between tho trees. The stidden tautening of the vine caused M'Ghie's tree to jump from its stump, and before he could jump clear, tho trunk had pinned him to the ground and fractured both of his logs. The sufferer had a terrible time, as. before ho could -be ■ released, the tree had to be sawn through, a process which. occupied two hours. M'Ghio was brought into Wellington Hospital for treatment, and is doing as well as can : bo. expected. ■,-, ...,-■... . John Hansen, about 20 years of age. while cutting. wood for . Dr. Faulke, Wainui-o-mata, yosterday, cut his fool, severely as a Tcsult of tho axe slipping. Hansen was admitted to the Wellington Hospital at 11 o'clock last night, after a nine-hours' journey from his home. .
