NOTES AND COMMENTS
. ' [Bt GiiEncoe-I The Avondale meeting, which opens on Wednesday, is the only race meeting in tho North Island this week. On the first day the Cup will be run, also the Avondale Stakes, four furlonge, for two-year-olds. On Saturday the Avondale Guineas will be decided. Bimetor was probably the only member of Mr. Gi'D. Greenwood's team that ran on Saturday at Sydney. To be beaten when tho six furlongs was run in lmin.- Msec. —a remarkably good gallop for this time of tho year—shows ■that The Maltster.colt is no sluggard, and it can bo expected that he will dft better at his next outing. The report that the light-weight jockey, A. Reed, was fined £5 for careless riding at Ashburton is . incorrect. An inquiry was , held by the Judicial Committee, but tho Trentham lightweight was ablo to prove that he was in no way connected with the scrimmage, that occurred. : The' three-year-old filly, Chakwana; who had been off the scene for some time suffering, with a cold, is now quite right again, and is a regular worker at Trentham. . ..-•''. Of the hacks working at Trentham, nothing is. going better. than, the Miiltifid mare; Reno, who is engaged V the Wanganui meeting. In, her track efforts she has been galloping in most pleaaing style, and is generally too good for anything that works with her. \ None of the Porirua team will bo raced .---until , , the , : Otaki meeting. The two-year-old filly by Oharlemagno ll—rArai te Uru, in , J. Ayres's Trentham stable,-had caused some little anxiety to her owner and trainer owing to. the appearance of her logs. Now, however, practically all signs of swelling have disappeared, and the youngster is moving quite sound. ; She will be crossed out of the Wellesley Stakes, but may bo given a run in one of tho handicaps at; tho Trentham Spring Meeting. ■ '...''.
