Sinis, partner in Sims, Cooper,-and Co., New Zea- , -laud,-stated that in 1907 the firm sold the Swift Company 5000 or 10,000 carcasses. That was their only transaction.' POOR OF BRITAIN AND BELGIUM THE FUND. ■ A meeting of the executive of the Poor of.Britain and Belgium Fund was , held yesterday. Those present were Messrs. C. P. Skerrett, K.C. (chairman), lan Duncan, C. G. Wilson, Martin Kennedy, T. Shailer.Weston, C. W. Tringhani, J. B. Harcourt, and the Hon. Dr. Collins. .' ' ' The chairman reported that the Christchurch committee had interviewed the Prime Minister, who expressed his hearty approval of the objects of the fund, and gave an assurance,that ho thought it very likely that the Government would bo able to assist in the matter of freight in the vessels conveying supplementary troops, which he regarded as practically certain. Mr. E.'O. Jack, who is unofficially a member of the executive, mentioned that t'he Faimers' Union might probably be able ,to lend, material assistance. - / ■ ■ .. .■•'■-. Various sub-committees were formed for the purpose of promoting the movement in the city and arranging for depots for receiving articles of clothing. It was decided'to approach the ladies working in connection with Lady Liverpool's Fund to make their organisation available for the uso of the poor at Homo as soon as the Expeditionary .force ■ requirements'' are met. Very satisfactory reports were received respecting the movement throughout the Dominion. The total fund in North Canterbury has now reached over -£11,000, and in South Canterbury strong committees are at work. Gisbome hopes to supply 10,000 sheep, and the. movement is gaining ground in Hawko's Bay. "The following additional donations have been received'in Wellington:— . ■ £ s. d. It is reported that the total donations in cash and kind from all parts of the Dominion is weli over £25,000. At St. Helens Station, in the Amuri district, North Canterbury, haro drives have been held in connection with the fund. Twenty-eight guns killed ,208 hares in one day, and these, together with about 600 others recently obtained on various stations, have been sent to the freezer, and will be forwarded Home. It is expected that rabbit drives will bo held iu the North Island. ..
