Auckland, September 13 A French ■ sailor belonging ; .to the barque Chateau d'lf fell from the. wharf 011 Saturday night and was drow.'itid. Deceased, whose -• name was, Louiso Le j Flock, was the man lyho was stabbed on board on Thursday night. He fell between the wharf:and the steamer during a squall. The body is being recovered to-day. . ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. '• j Chrlsicliurch, September 12. A young man named Albert Bertie Clements made a determined effort to commit suicide this morning in Moor- 1 house Avenue, at about 10.30 o'clock, by sneaking behind a steam-roller snd thriving himself, under the wheels.- Bo was seen by the driver in time, but he was badly bruised oil ono -.slnu'der by the weight of the engine.', •• Ho was detained by the driver till the polico came, when ho was arrested and taken to the polico station. DEATH BY POISONING. Dannovlrke, September 13. ■ Alex. M'Bride, farmer, Matiuiaii, died last evening at his home, as. the result of poisoning. Deceased had been depressed lately, and had been endeavouring to dispose of his interest in. his farm. It is reported tliat shortly after returning hime from Tokomaru last ovening he took poison, and died soon after. \ ■ MAHINAPUA" DROWNING FATALITY. Hokitika, September 12. ( At the inquest in oonneqtion with the Mahinapua Creek drowning fatality,, the Coroner returned a verdict of accidentally drowned. The victims ■ were: Waugh, aged 25; Herring, '21;' 'and Rcgers, 22. Martin Burn, a single man,'residing in Argyle Street, .was assisting to. unload the collier Pukaki early on- Saturday morning, when a. basket of coal fell ou him. He was removed to the Hospital suffering from injuries to his head and arm. : Mrs. A. Morrell, 67 years of ago, «i resident of Hanover Street,- Wadestown, was admitted to _ the Hospital yesterday afternoon, suffering from a broken, leg.
