'It lies, in a fertile plain on the left bank of the Vistula, and occupies a' position of groat strategical importance. No other Polish town lias been so closely associated wit!) the development and destinies of Poland as Cracow. It was the ancient capital and is still the intellectual centre of the. Polish nation. The city is the headquarters of the Austrian First Army Corps. Hie fortresses aro on both sides of the river and several outlying forts have been recently added. , ENEMY COMPLETELY ROUTED. • * (Rec. The "Daily Chronicle" correspondent at Petrograd states that tho great battle with the Austrian's at Lublin, in Russian Poland, ended in the complete victory of the Russians, who completely routed the\Austrians. ENORMOUS AUSTRIAN LOSSES. • - Petrograd, September 10. Official.—Fugitives from the Austrian army state that their'losses were enormous. Numerous Tegiments were completely decimated. The Austrians • fear a revolt in Bukovina. >, Hungarian sympathy for Russia, is increasing. .Private correspondence confirms the reports of the disorganisation of the Austrian 'armies, and states that the Austrians are using explosive bullets.— ("Times" and Sydeny "Sun" Services.) Vienna, September 10. 'It is officially admitted that the Archduke Frederick lost 120,000 men, about one-fourth of his command, in the recent battle in Galicia. Amsterdam, September 10. . The Vienna "Zeitung" states that the Russians only seized Lemberg because the Austrians were surprised. The paper also says that resistance would have exposed the town to bombardment. A Vienna dispatch says that all the available hospitals, hotels, public buildings, and schools are unable to accommodate the Austrian wounded from Poland and Galicia. , FIGHT DECIDED BY THE BAYONET. 1 (Rec.
