Considerable interest, says' the Auckland "Star," was aroused by . the arrival in Auckland on Sunday of the Trench Darquo Chauteou. d'Jf. Tho vessel brought a cargo of eome 300Q tons of superphosphates from Hamburg, Germany, from which port she, sailed on May 3. For the most part, the long voyage was uneventful b.ut when tfte vessel Tva6 to the south of Australia a succession of heavy gales were encountered. Mountainous seas swept the decks continually. and some of tho sails wore blown to pic-es, while a number of fittings were smashed. Cape Maria was reached on September 1, and thfe barque was sighted from Tiri Tiri on Friday evening. Until arrival a-t Auckland the crew did not know that their country was at r<ar, and not a little excitement was caused when they learned that England, Franco, Belgium, and Russia were fighting the common enemy.
