; ; To-morrow the Wellington citizens will observe a half-holiday in order that they inay participate ' in tlio merry carnival organised by the Sports and. ;Entertainmeuts .Committee in aid of tlie 'Mayor's Patriotic'.' Fund. It will be held in the Baain Reserve, and the committee have organised a great programme, and it now remains for the •public to respond and assist the cause. The principle, items of attraction will be. a cricket match, an old-timer football match, and a gift auction. The cricket match will be played'under "old English": conditions by a Parliamentary team . captained by Sir Joseph Ward, and a team of Mayors and Ex-Mayors, led by'his Worship the Mayor of Wellington. Several ex-representative New Zealand and provincial footballers will take part, in the. old-timers' match, i The "gift auction" articles are growing to large proportions, - and the latest additions are canai-y and cage, parrot and cage, young prize fox-terrier, collio dog, and two safety razors. Bands will bo in attendance. Afternoon tea will also be provided' at a nominal charge. ;. Following are the official times for starting the various evenfs:—Cricket match, 2.30 p.m. auction," 3.45 p.m.; football match, .4: p.m.; councillors' race, 4.30 p.m.; boys' walking 4.35 p.m.; Maori Hakaj 4.45 p.m. During the afternoon the finish for the Marathon race by the combined Harriers' Clubs will take place.
