WANGANUI NOTES.
At the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Harbour Board complaint was rnado by the pilot of the practice of certain shipmasters in entering the port before being signalled to stand in. Two skippers were mentioned as having been warned before, and on the last occasion one got stuck in the river channel through not waiting for sufficient water, while the other, finding tho berth not ready for him, saw fit to anchor ill the fairway. The board decided that the Works Committee deal with tho matter, and also that the attention of -vessels' owners be (lrawn to the captaiiu' disregard of signals. Tho Harbour Board has finally signed all the documents in connection with its harbour extension loan, negotiations for which have happily not been alfectcd by Lhe war. The money is now immediately available, and the permanent staff is busy with preliminary work, which is wpll advanced. It is hoped that about tlio end of the year tho whole scheme will bo in full swing. ■
