HUTT & PETONS NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the annual tea and social of the Petone Church of Christ Sunday School) Mr. _H. Wellington (superintendent) presided over a large attendance. The -following scholars assisted in the" programme:—The' Misses H. and G. Ashby, Withington, Grinstead, Quail, and Jones, and Masters 0. Ford, Grinstead, Ashby, R and K. TJsmar. Mr. IV Ashby (secretary) rear] the report for the 'year, and Mr. H. Grinstead (evangelist) delivered an address on Sunday School work. A number of children, underMiss Braddock rendered . action fiongs, etc.. and Miss R. Ashby was pianist. A children's choir under Mr. G. Moore was a feature of the evening. In connection with the : potato growing scheme at Lower Hutt, tho seed potatoes have- beon delivered, and aro at present stored in convenient places, awaiting the preparation of- the grounds. It is expiected that a start will be made this week. A prominent Petone resident suggests that if during the war every workingman in tho Hutt Valley contributed ono shilling per week to tho Patriotic Fund a least £20 per monh would be raised. He adds that all. the sacrifico required would be a" little less of the luxuries of life, and if the moven-ent spread over the Dominion the result would be .surprising. A quantity of sweets, etc., has. been donated by several firms in Wellington to the LoweT Hutt Patriotic Fund, and will be offered for sale at a concert (organised by Dr. Purdy) to.be held in, tho.Town Hall, Lower Hutt, next Friday evening, ' •
