HUTT RIVER BOARD
: The Hutt River Board mot on Thursday, there being present: Messrs. Baldwin (chairman;,, weiou, -Kennedy, and Bowers. Messrs. Short and Frasor, on behalf of a client, intimated that they wero desirous of purchasing about 18 or 20 acres of land at the south of Gear Island, and it was decided to reply, stating that ■ the board had no power to sell. The necessary , resolution in connection with the proposeel loan of £5500 was passed. The Lands and Survey Department advised that a grant of £130 towards protectivo works at Melling's had been approved, and asked the board to carry out the work.—Referred to Mr. LaingMeasou for a report.. The overseer's report stated that the boom groyne at Calcinai's had been completed, the length being 163 ft., at a' cost of £43 7s. 3d ; —lolft. of hardwood and the remainder of willows. The groyne at Hooper's was also completed—length, 121 ft., costing £43 Bs. lid. At Chapman's Bend, in..tho .western arm, staked willows of a chain in width bad been placed at a- cost of £7 3,i. The report (which was adopted) also recommended that a groyne be put in at Alicetown, as the river was threatening seevral / portions of tho banks thero.
