The Wellington Wool brokers' Association decided that catalogues of hides and tallow only should be submitted yesterday at the usual fortnightly sale fixture. TheTC was a. good attendance of buyers. Prices showed a drop in values of 15 to 20 per cent, as compared with local sales in July, which must be considered satisfactory in view, of lower rates lately being obtained in. Australian and other Now Zealand centres. Xha JUL Loan and Mercantile Azenov.
Company, Ltd., offered a iairly large catalogue of hides and tallow. There was a. very good attendance of buyers, and competition' was good at the lower range of values caused by the dislocation of trade by the war. . Prices were a shade higher than tho6e ruling at the sale a. month ago. The firm clc-arod the passcd-in' lots of ehecpskins from t.ho last sale privately at satisfactory- prico. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered some 500 Ealted eltius, and these sold at fail prices. Generally there was fair competition for hides, and prices ruled at about lid. per lb. lower than- before the outbreak of war. It ie probable that tho selling of skins will he resumed shortly. The United Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., end the Wairarapa Farmers Co-operative Association, Ltd., report that owing to the unsettled stale of tho market no wool or sheepskins were offered. Messrs. Levin and Company, Ltd., report:—Mlow sold at rates current a month- «go. There was «■ good demand for hide* though prices -showed a decline or approximatcly 3-Bths of a peony all round. At last sale calfskins fell at least per pound, but recovered about one penny at to-day's sale l . We think that farmers will be well advised to forward skins for ialo promptly, for though prices are about twopence per poiind. easier, it appears to us that the market will not materially improve in. tho near futuTe, and skine held baok will deteriorate, as a rule. Messrs. Murray, Hoberts, and Co., Ltd., report:—"We submitted a, catalogue of 550 hides and calfskins, a large number of buyers attending the sale. Competition was good for all wcltconditioned parcels of Sides, at prices oil the average about a halfpenny below the sale held last month, and wo oleared the whole of .our catalogue at this range of values. Tanners operated freely, and a few lote were bought by export-era. Calfskins sold at about lid. to 2d. below the high figure's of a month, ego.
