In connection with the forthcoming Town Board elections at Upper Hutt, a representative body of electors waited during the past week on Mr. R. H. Webb and Dr. F. W. Kemp, sitting members of the board, to request them to allow themselves to be nominated for re-election.: Mr. Webb had decided not to stand, and for business reasons felt compelled to give a rofusal to the deputation, _but in view of the strong re-, presentations made and the general- nature of tho desire that he should stand, ho agreed to Teeonsider his decision. Baldwin and Rayward, patent attorneys, of 215 Lambton Quay, report that they have filed the following applications 'for patent of New Zealand recently:—C. A. Hack, Melbourne, gas generating or producing apparatus; W. Foulds, Sydney, vapourising composition for enriching illuminating gas; Wilson's Portland Cement Co., Ltd.,; Auckland, concrete foncing-post; H. J. Yates, Birmingham, gas fore; W. Paton, Papakaio, agricultural implement wheel and bearing; Driller and Company, Wei-' lington, show case; Wilson's Portland Cement Co., Ltd., Auckland, concrete post mould; W. 0. Beere and J. E. Rough, AVellington, fibre, ■ gum and juices extracting from flax, etc.; B. Rhodes, Ryal Bush; discing adjustment for ploughs; C.'E. Spear, junr., Dunedin, ball castor.
