TREMENDOUS RUSSIAN SUCCESS.
HUGE AUSTRIAN ARMY ROUTED
70,000 PRISONERS TAKEN
FIERCE FIGHTING IN FRANCE
GERMANS NEARING PARIS
SEAT OF GOVERNMENT REMOVED.
■While the German advance in France is nearing Paris, the Russian invasiW of Galicia has been crowned by the occupation of the great Oity of Lemberg, the capital of the province. The'story of the Russian .success is a; striking one. A huge Austrian Army was, completely routed, tens of thousands killed and wounded, 200 guns oaptured,'and 70,000 Austrians taken prisoners. Besides this splendid success, the Ger- ";■.-•■ man • advance' into France sinks for the moment into the background. The latest news from' France points to the Allies being, compelled to ' i retire, leaving Amiens in the hands of the Germans, and taking up a position much nearer to Paris, There-appears to have been further desperate fighting. The seat of Government} has been removed from Paris to Bordeaux as a precautionary measure, and President Poincare' has seized the occasion of the transfer, to make a spirited appeal to the " French people. There are many stories of daring deeds and heroic actions in which the British troops have their full share. 'A new note is struck by the London "Times," which . suggests that_the German plans in seizing Channel ports in Belgium, and France include an attempted invasion of England. In other directions.there ia little of importance to record. There are many additional stories of German brutalities, and of the wanton destruction of historic' buildings ci „ world-wide,interest. .; ' '.l-/:'/' •" ■' '
