RACING CAREER ENDED

PROMINENT COP CANDIDATE. Br Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrieht (Kec. Scptembor 3, 10.40 p.m.) Melbourne, September 3. Mousme, a prominent Cup candidate, has ended her racing career. At Caulfield sho fell when taking a hurdle, and fractured her shoulder., bne will probably go to the stud. ' ' Mousme is a bay filly by The Echo— The Gttisha, and is owned by Mr. D. L. Doolotte. NOTES AND COMMENTS tßr Glekcoi.l W. Bell will be on Passadena- in the Avoiidale Cup. This year the northern meeting does not clash"with any meetings ill the south, and in consequence a larger proportion than usual of "foreign" jockeys will be riding at the meeting. Amongst those who intend being present are Oliver, Bell, Emerson, and L. Wilson. The three last-mention-ed and B Deeley will he at Ashburton next week, and will then go straight on to Avondale.

Amongst those on board the Ulimaroa, bound; for .Sydney, to-day, will be 11. Berry, Who is going to Randwick to ride Mr. W. G. Stead's horses, lling-. form, Bon Reve, and Peppercorn, in their engagements at the Spring, Meeting of the Australian Jockey Club. Bon Revo is engaged in the Epsom Handicap Ringform in the A.J.C. Derby, and Peppercorn is the Maltster—Condiment filly purchased by. Mr. Stead at the autumn sales. The latter is engaged in the Breeders' Plate and Gimcrack Stakes, and at Hastings she has something of a reputation as a galloper. In her. first try-out over two furlongs she ran 24 seconds with a good weight up, on the bit and alone. This made her look-to bo a champion, but when pitted against Downham she failed to go with him, and after this ,the touts would not have her. However, it is far too early to condemn her yet, and apparently her own'or is quite satisfied to make the trip with, hor. The ex-jockey, W. Bennett, wlio -when attaahed to R. J. Mason's stables was considered, a promising and won several races, including the Summer ,Cup on Miss Mischief in 1909, has -joined tho .Expeditionary ■ Force, and is now in camp at Awapum. A, J. M'Flynn who began . the season well at Kiccarton by riding four winners was up on another one at Marton on Wednesday, when he scored on Glen Nevis in the Hack Hurdles. Later/ on he went out on Waterworks in the Hack Steeples, but at the first fence the black gelding came down over another horse, and M'Flynn received a broken collarbone. The Auckland horseman met with a lot of bad luck last season, but his friends wero hoping lie would liave a run of fortune this sear son., ■ . ■

The two-year-old. King's Courier, who attracted a lot' or attention, by badly' defeating the other Auckland juveniles in a try-out over throo furlougs at the Pakurangu Hunt Olub meeting, haß recently been sold for 400 guineas, with a'further contingency of 100 guineas if he.wins a race: The half-brother to King Lupin will in future be trained by J. E. Thorpe at Ellerslio. Rumour says R. Haunonhae a better oolt at home than the one he has sold. Maniaroa has distinction of being tho first horse to incur a penalty for the Now Zealand Cup. Tho Maniopoto gelding showed'a. lot of grit at the finish of his racOj and half a furlong from homo it certainly looked as if Hyettus would wear him down. : 'At New Plymouth, trainer R. Barlow is now working 1 a three-year-old gelding by Glenullin, from Serf. , He is spoken of as a good-looking heme, but one likely.to want a lot of time. Mi-. J. B. Reid has decided to geld Salzburg. This may the temper of tho sou of Charlemagne 11, who, though he was rever much t-o look at, was capable of mustering up a lot of pace when racing as a two-year-old.

W. Bell has been engaged to ride Chrysotis in her Aehburton, engagements. :

J. W. Lowe returned, home to Trentham immediately after the Marton meeting, and Want also came back yesterday. This does not look as it the Penury colt will fulfil his Avondal© Guineas engagement, i■. '

Sir' George Clifford-has sold' 'Masterpiece) und the Clanranald _ horse will take up stud duty this year. ■ Mr. H. Coyle has been appointed to frame the- handicaps .for tho forthcqmiug meeting of the Ofcaki Maori Racing Club':' ' v ' • , _■ The' St. Leger. tho last cf tho English classics, will be decided at, Doncastor 011 -Wednesday next.
