VISIT TO DAY'S BAY

RESERVES COMMITTEE'S NEW RESPONSIBILITY.

In Williams Park at Day's Bay tha Reserves Committee has a now and very valuable and beautiful spot to preseVvo. As the weather on Wednesday afternoon was very delightful, an official trans-harbour, trip was made'by' 'the committee, accompanied by the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) and the city engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton). The committee wished to have first-hand- knowledge of the playing areas in view of the allocations to be made soon for the coming season, and whilst there they; examined into the condition of the various grounds. By arrangement, ,the committee was met at the Bay by Mr. M. W. Welch (chairman of the Hutt County Council) and Mr. Wakeham, member of the council for the district, and a consultation was held regarding this alignment of the Day's Bay road. The plans show that the road as planned followed a_ line that went much nearer the Pavilion than does the present road, and an arrangement has practically -been arrived at to legalise th« existing alignment as nearly as possible in order to preserve the properties immediately to the eastward oi the road. The stretch of road which. traverses the Bay was under an old arrangement with the Wellington Steam Ferry Company, lit by three electric lamps, which since the purchase; of the property by the City and adjoining boroughs have not illuminated the Stygian darkness of the vicinity. The city engineer is to % report as to the best and most economical manner of lighting this section of roadway—either with oil or acetylene l gas lamps. Williams Park was looking at its very best on Wednesday, ana there is every prospect of a good sea-son-ahead for the City's newest and prettiest reserve.
