Miss May M'Laren (Masterton). is visiting Wellington. So great has been the energy with which ''house-wives" and hold-alls havo been manufactured for the use of tho Expeditionary Forces' that the Mayoress's Committee has arrived at the decision that no more need be sent in, as they have more than are wanted—• enough almost to equip another Expeditionary Force. Miss Dorothy Pollen, who was in Austria at the time of tho outbreak of war, lias, according to advice., received by cable, arrived safely in London. Arrangements for a further supply of spring flowers, which the Ladies' Committee of the Star Boating Club will again distribute about the town on Friday and Saturday have been made by Lady Godley. Tho committee would also like the assistance of a few volunteers. - The engagement i 3 announced of Miss Mary M'Rae, daughter of Mr. F. S. M'Rae, of Palmerston North, to Mr. Kenneth Hankins, youngest'son of Mr. T. Herbert Haiikins, also , 'of Palmerston North, Mrs. Gieson iias returned to Daimevirke from a visit to Christohurch. Mrs. Ormond Cooper (Masterton) is visiting Wellington. At an afternoon tea which was given in Christchurch the other day for Mrs. Harry Lauder, much pleasure and interest was aroused in some of the guest of honour's reminiscences when travelling. In her own way, states a writer in the Christchurch "News," Mrs. Lauder is as great a racontur —or vaconteuse (?)—as her husband. Very curidus are the letters which she, as well as hor husband, reoeive from unknown persons. One' to Mrs. Lauder ran something as follows; —"I have seen •you, and noticed that you have a Christian face. Would j;ou send me twentyfive pounds."
